2015 |
As part of a much larger expansion of the New Balance HQ’s at Brighton Landing, the existing parking garage was significantly updated for additional access by adding a new stair tower and elevator. In addition, the exterior façade received a colorful new makeover by adding a rainbow of colorful accent steel panels. When under design, the architect called Righter Group for a Tnemec Coatings recommendation regarding long-term color and gloss retentive corrosion resistant coatings.
The representatives at the Righter Group met with the designer, Owner’s representative as well as the General Contractor to discuss coordinating the coating requirements. Based on the color selections it was evident right up front that long-term color retention was going to be a critical item on this project. Most deep or primary colors like the ones selected for this project will lose gloss and fade with traditional finishes under UV exposure. Fortunately, Tnemec Company offers a fluoropolymer resin finish for just this type of project. Known for their outstanding color and gloss retention, Tnemec’s Series 1070, 1071 and 1072 Fluoronar finish became the product of choice.
Designing a long-term coating system starts with the selection of the finish coat, but, in addition, there is the requirement for corrosion resistant primers and intermediate coats in conjunction with the Fluoronar finish coat. The Righter team recommended a 3-coat, shop-applied coating system consisting of a prime coat of Series 394 PerimePrime for corrosion resistance, an intermediate coat of Series 161HS Epoxoline followed by the Series 1071 Fluoronar.
